Coastal Walkway, New Plymouth

(4.7/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Feel the sea breeze, admire the views of Mount Taranaki, listen to the sound of breaking waves, and go for a relaxing stroll, jog, or bike ride at Coastal Walkway. The 12.7 km (7.9 mi) walkway stretches along a large part of the city's coast and serves as one of New Plymouth's favorite outdoor areas. Along its length, the walkway is lined with beaches and picnic areas as well as cultural and historical sites. Look for the Te Rewa Rewa Bridge, an architectural gem spanning the Waiwhakaiho River. If you're bringing your dog along for a stroll, make sure to always keep it on a leash. • We made use of this track over a couple of days. It's long, flat and winds its way around the New Plymouth coastline. It's an easy path and has beautiful vistas to enjoy.
  • Cycled from the Port to th end of Bell block on a bike from Chaddy's Hire. Great to see so many family orientated things to do along the way. Free!
  • Pleasant slightly hilly ride, about 12km each way. Unless you have a very strong headwind it is easy going. If there is a headwind I suggest you start at the end so you face the headwind and then you ...  more »

  • Perfect place for a nice walk along the coast. Amazing view of the sea, and gives you a great look at the port as well. Would love to spend a day and walk the entirety of the walk way
  • I wouldn't mind a dollar for every kilometer I've walked on this world-class pathway. Got 20 minutes? Walk it. Got three hours. Walk it. Or bike. Or run. Or take the dog. Or sit down for coffee. Spectacular views of the ever-changing Tasman Sea. Highly, highly recommended.
  • Awesome for taking a stroll, a great asset for New Plymouth
  • A bracing scenic stroll along the New Plymouth foreshore. The path is well maintained and the views are stunning.
  • Great views. Close to CBD area.
