  • This aquarium is not large compared to a lot of overseas ones, but makes up for it in quality. I took my 2 young grandsons, and they were enchanted. The tunnel going through the big tanks with sharks ...  more »

  • This was the first place we saw real live kiwis (at an aquarium, no less!) which was awesome. The aquarium itself is great and the exhibits well maintained and interesting. We also enjoyed the informative and interesting geology exhibit at the main entrance. The best part for me was the penguin rehab sanctuary.
  • The place is awesome. I really love to go there and enjoy refreshing cool water. It's very friendly place.
  • Was impressed with how much they could fit in a small area. Had a bunch of high school kids there which didn't make for an overly enjoyable visit. But impressed with facilities and the diverse range of aquatic animals. Very impressed with Terry, the hawksbill turtle. Though he did look very sad. (Not that I would know what a sad turtle looks like). Loved watching the little blue penguins. And although carp /koi is a pest in NZ I found them quite interesting. Very inquisitive and slimy to the touch. A great couple of hours for anyone. If you are a family however. .... do have some respect and don't let you kids smash on the tanks. These are animals and they deserve respect.
  • A must see. Tuataras ...and look for the big one if he's out of hiding. Just don't expect him to dance for you. Also live kiwis in a simulated night time display.
  • I would say pretty poor value for money. The admission price and the exterior of the building makes you feel like you are going to get a Kelly tarlton like experience but I would say it’s not anywhere near as good. My 2 year old was not into it at all but maybe older kids would be.
