  • Although you have to be lucky that the wind does not come from the wrong direction (if you know what I mean), it is really nice to come that close to that gannet colony! You can just take a short walk...  more »

  • Not many tourists, many locals come to surf the sea, friends with us at sunset, the birds flock on the island are very strong, but also captured the Wild Bunny, only met a group of visitors, the body is very suitable for walking around the place.

  • Been here a couple of times, great place. It does need a bit of a clean though. We pick up as much if the trash we find, but we can only do so much. If people can clean up after themselves that would be great ;)
  • One of the very popular place in the west auckland, takes you up and close to the gannet colony, and great place in any weather condition. It's advisable to pick your time right as this place is frequented by tour buses so will be very crowded with people at times. Parking also quite limited. If you like/want to see the gannet, go in the months between August and March, as by April the gannet will start migrating to Australia, and back again around the spring time.
  • Pick your time here wisely. A very popular place to go and not much parking. Highly recommended. If you want to swim do so at your own discretion, and between the flags. Gannets are amazing!
  • One of the best things I did in the north island! The sight of thousands of nesting gannets was absolutely amazing to witness! Just make sure you are coming in the right time of year.
  • Very easy access with walkways. You can get really up close. It is an easy walk and suitable for everyone. However, it might not be that wheelchair friendly or if you're dependent on a walking apparatus. The birds nests for a very short time. So best to go between Feb - March. You can visit Muriwai beach before or after you come here. It's a surfing beach and not suitable for swimming.
