Mount Maunganui Base Track, Mount Maunganui
(4.9/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
With a summit 460 m (1,509 ft) above sea level and the peak just 700 m (2,296.6 ft) away from the coastline, Mount Maunganui Base Track appears defiant and dominant in its surroundings. A walkway leading through coastal forest and farmland will take you to the top if you want the best view of the Tasman Surf. The alternative trails placed around the base offer an easy and relaxing walk for all fitness levels. Those not looking for a hike can explore nearby restaurants and cafes, or stop at a shop for picnic fixings. The clear blue beaches below offer swimming; however, you may need to exercise slight caution off the main beach as the current can sometimes be unpredictable. • Pleasant walk, many people enjoy the walk, long but relatively easy with cafe shops as a reward at the end.
  • The entire route 30 minutes slowly. Elevation changes. If there is no port Cruiser it is not crowded. Although the weekend is always plentiful. Pleasant views. There are benches for rest. Toilet and water only near campsites.

  • Good easy track with lots of parking at pilots bay. To a picnic and enjoy the views. You will love it.
