Ngarua Caves, Motueka
Categories: Caves, Nature & Parks
Marvel at the variety of stalagmites and stalactites in Ngarua Caves, a cave system with easy access and well-lit walkways. Learn about the extinct moa (an endemic flightless bird) and even spot some of their bones left behind. Guided tours are offered regularly in the summer, but during winter, advanced reservation is required. When you've finished exploring, relax at the onsite cafe and admire the views of Tasman Bay. Local crafts in the gift shop make great souvenirs. Put Ngarua Caves into our Motueka vacation route planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

this was an absolutely spectacular experience i travelled with a group of friends lots of pictures there was some interesting displays inside as well.
Great place to stop for coffee and sight seeing views on the way into Takaka!
We went there on a Saturday morning and were the first people, although the next tour should have started in half an hour the staff did the tour with us immediately which was very nice :) It's a long and very interesting cave, definitely worth a visit :)
Staff very nice. Small group in the cave so friendly atmosphere. Stalactites and stalagmites everywhere. Cave really magnificent. It took 1 hour to come back to the office. We think that the price is really reasonable (7$ pp). At the end we learned that a scene of the last Hobbit was shot near the place (good surprise for fans). We recommend the tour.
I want there on my school camp and it was amazing 💖😊
Nice guide and really impressive in the Cave, The price is $17 per person , not $7 as stated. But still a good experience.
