Jester House Cafe and Tame Eels, Motueka

(4.7/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
A rather unusual attraction, Jester House Cafe and Tame Eels make up part of a complex including an artsy cafe, fairytale accommodation in a Boot, and organic garden. You can hand-feed the tame eels and touch them with no worries. Wash your hands and head to the charming garden cafe that offers excellent food like seafood chowder and cheese soufflé. The attraction's owners also boast daily fresh-baked bread and preserves made from local products. Wi-Fi is available, and children will enjoy the Enchanted forest play area, too. Jester House Cafe and Tame Eels is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Motueka Edition. • You can choose a table in the garden or indoors, you can wander the gardens or climb down a steep bank to the tame eels. It's a quirky sanctuary with grass and trees. There's a play area for the kids....  more »

  • Amazing place. Lovely food, charming staff, great play area with all kinds of amusements for kids. Would go all the time if we were local. My only wish is that they'd be willing to share their recipes for delicious cake!
  • Once again Steve, Judy and their team put on an amazing evening for our annual black tie/red carpet dinner. A superbly crafted and presented degustation menu with matching wines, all with a "from here" theme, wonderful ambience, really creative table decor all combined to prove that they are at the top of their game
  • This place is special. Great garden area for kids to play, food was delicious and staff very friendly. Highly recommend.
  • Super place! It'd be worth a visit for the coffee and food OR it'd be worth it for the tame eels... Have a go at it and see both!
  • This place is always very busy in the summer, but my favourite time is in low season. Lovely food and good service, plus the setting is lovely.
