Jester House Cafe and Tame Eels, Motueka

4.7
#5 of 27 in Parks in Nelson-Tasman Region
A rather unusual attraction, Jester House Cafe and Tame Eels make up part of a complex including an artsy cafe, fairytale accommodation in a Boot, and organic garden. You can hand-feed the tame eels and touch them with no worries. Wash your hands and head to the charming garden cafe that offers excellent food like seafood chowder and cheese soufflé. The attraction's owners also boast daily fresh-baked bread and preserves made from local products. Wi-Fi is available, and children will enjoy the Enchanted forest play area, too. The cafe garden is a treat in itself, great for both young and old alike. The food is equally as good, and the veggie burger is the best I have ever eaten. The staff are helpful and attentive, and the...  more »

  • Weird!! But awesome. Don't let the random surrounds through you. These guys do good food. I only stopped by for a quick bite, but I'd love to stop by for a full meal. The staff were lovely and the cafe itself is quite charming.
  • Fantastic lunch staff and location. A nice touch is the woollen blankets that are given to the guests outside if it is cold and the mulled wine for the same reason.
  • Great food and friendly people in a place brimming with character. Charming and fun!
  • Went there for a coffee late sunday morning, the staff were very friendly and the layout is really nice - lots of little areas which are perfect for catching up with friends. Theres also lots to wander around and see with the interesting artwork and tame eels.
  • Loved this place but there was no way to stop small children from falling into the water. Loads of un supervised kids by the water. The food was awful but I loved the eels
