Katiki Point Lighthouse, Moeraki
(4.5/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
Visit the southern point of Moeraki Peninsula at Katiki Point Lighthouse, home to fur seals and yellow-eyed penguins. Take a tour of the historical lighthouse that dates from 1878 and enjoy the magnificent coastal views. Enter a reserve and view a breeding site for yellow-eyed penguins from a bird hide, where you can observe with disturbing the animals. Remember to keep noise to a minimum and remain off the beach. Keep your eyes peeled for native fur seals, too, which laze on rocky platforms around the coast. If you go to fish, be sure to use the designated coastal access point. • Long drive on very bumpy gravel road away from the main road to get here, has a toilet facility. We took the right path as others suggested, but didn't get to see any penguin. Perhaps because of the timing. Beautiful shore, seen few seals sun bathing along the way.
  • Yellow eyed penguins, seals and rabbits everywhere. Incredible place to see wildlife and a must stop location on the drive up the coast (if you like penguins)
  • Don't miss that beautiful place, lots of seals and Yellow-eyed penguins to see in a wild. The hours are limited.
  • Most amazing place! Seals and pinguines for free!
  • It was the best place to see penguin and sea lions on the wild for Free.
