Ayrlies Garden is a country garden near Whitford, southeast of Auckland on the North Island of New Zealand. It is one of New Zealand's best-known gardens, and has been described as the "quintessential New Zealand garden".The garden now covers some 12acre of rolling terrain, with large lawns, ponds and waterways, and heavily planted informal borders which make strong use of colour, including a "lurid border" of 'hot' colours. Some areas feature roses, clematis and perennials; others contain lush, sub-tropical plants, such as Petrea, Alocasia, bromeliads, vireya rhododendrons and Ficus dammaropsis. It also includes many large trees - mostly liquid amber, swamp cypress and pin oak - which have grown rapidly in the warm and wet climate, with rare frosts and over 50in of rain a year. It contains several structures around the main house, including a small 'sitooterie' - a low gazebo, to sit out in and admire the view. The large site is unified by a consistent planting and use of materials. Before you visit Manukau, use our trip planner to discover what you can do and see there.

静谧精致的私家花园 区别于中国园林 这边少了一些人工雕琢更多浑然天成和广阔的视野 但又比奥克兰其他开放式公园多了一些设计感和错落有致 more »

In a period of rather radical new directions in garden design, this private estate is rather mature and fairly timeless, to the extent that gardens, which are always changing, can be. It features care... more »

Food for the mind. Truly artistic and yet so natural. We lost ourselves for a few hours in this lovely garden and had our questions answered by Jackie and our book signed by Bev McConnell herself. My ... more »

An absolutely beautiful garden. A beautiful place for a visit with many different attractions to see and enjoy if you follow the map. The gardeners were very friendly and happy to fill us in on the history of the gardens. Well maintained and highly enjoyable on a warm sunny day. My grandparents from England loved it, well worth a visit. A nice gem in East Auckland

A great place to visit, perfect for spending time with your family and creating good memories. It was like you are transported into a magical place- the inviting cool soft whooshing sound of the water features, wonderful fragrance of roses, spectacular scenery beyond and so much more. We really had a wonderful time at this truly very inspiring place.
