Must see · Bridge · Hiking Trail
You won't find any roads on either side of Bridge to Nowhere, a concrete bridge spanning the Mangapurua Stream in Whanganui National Park. The bridge was originally built to provide access to new open land, mainly for returning World War I soldiers, with the intention of adding roads later. However, the land proved too unsuitable for farming, so the attempt was abandoned and the forest overtook the bridge. Naturally, you cannot drive to the attraction, so choose between biking or hiking on various paths. If those options don't appeal to you, reach the site by water in a kayak. • Beautiful ride. We did this in less than four hours. My favorite part was the first 20 kms, the first 10 km is the climb then its beautiful downhill. The climb isn't too bad, overall the ride was 500m elevation. Thereafter, it moves to single track. Make sure you are organized as you need a shuttle in, boat out and then another shuttle. Pack lots of water and snacks!
  • A great day outing jet boat ride and walk was good 2.7km each way and it took us an easy 40 minutes and we are both over 80 but less than85
  • Great historical landmark, we did the jet boat tour with walk, and guide was really interesting and informative. Bring a thermos of hot drink if it’s a wet day! Cool stories from the guide
  • Absolutely beautiful and totally worth it
  • Bridge to Nowhere tours would have to be the best value for money in NZ! My family and I have done several tours in the north and south island, as well as tours off a cruise boat and the whole family enjoyed this tour the most. Soaked up the wild atmosphere and wonderful forest. Guides are local and knowledgeable, thanks guys you are the best on the river!
