The Parrot Place, Kerikeri
(4.5/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Get up close and personal with approximately 300 colorful birds at The Parrot Place, a zoo and breeding center. Stroll through the lush subtropical gardens as brightly plumed parrots frolic around you, or enter the large walk-in aviaries where the friendly birds will happily perch on an arm or a head. The center's knowledgeable hosts will tell you all about their many varieties and species from around the world, including the native New Zealand kākāriki. A large play area keeps children entertained while you relax in the picnic area, perhaps with an ice cream from the onsite shop.
