Hundertwasser public toilets, Kawakawa
(4.3/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Indisputably one of New Zealand's most unusual attractions, Hundertwasser public toilets represent an international work of art. Designed by reclusive Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, this block of public restrooms features trademark wavy lines, irregular ceramic tiles, and splashes of bright color. The architect made extensive use of recycled materials, including the community's spent glass bottles and bricks from a former Bank of New Zealand branch. • These public conveniences are decorated like no other. They reminded me of Gaudi and Barcelona. It's not often you want to linger in public toilets but these are different. You really must take a look

  • Stunning piece of art.. A great place for a pit stop on the drive up to paihia and watch the tram go past the town
  • Quirky and unique place for a free toilet stop on your way up North :)
