Inspirock Rating:
4.7/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web
Take a short drive out of Kaikoura to explore South Bay's Peninsula Seal Colony. An abundance of well laid-out walkways grant you easy access to the surrounding landscape. Extending about 11.7 km (7.3 mi), it takes about 3 hours to complete. The stars of the peninsula are most definitely the flourishing community of seals going about their daily business and soaking up the sun; keep a respectful distance, however, for your own safety. Dolphins, whales, and crayfish also populate the sea here. A short hike to the Point Kean lookout rewards with a full panoramic view of the bay, Kaikoura town, and the towering snowcapped mountains encircling the area.
