Outdoor Activity
Adventure into the secret nocturnal life of one of nature's brightest creatures at Glow Worm Dell. Bring a flashlight with you on the short walk, which yields excellent views of the worm colonies in a well-maintained, sustainable grotto. The insects can only be seen at night, but the grotto itself is an atmospheric, fern-covered natural structure when visited during the day. • The glow worm dell was only a 400 metre walk from my motel and is well worth a visit. Of course, best seen at night so take a small torch to travel the 50 metres up the path from the road. Once the fi...  more »
  • An amazing opportunity to get up close and view these amazing little creatures all for free. Forget taking photos as flash and noisy people disturb the little critters and detract from the display. Th...  more »
  • Hard to believe that this little dell is literally a few steps from the main coastal road and across from a number of motels. Although quite small the number of glow worms is quite spell bounding. Mag...  more »

  • Amazing, convenient, and free place to see the infamous New Zealand glowworms. I didn't know what to expect, but it was unlike anything else I'd seen in the wild. Thousands of bright lights could be seen after walking only 15 meters into the area. With all the lights off it looks like you are seeing a beautiful, blue-starred sky. Remember to turn off your camera flash and torch, keep quiet, and be respectful to the other visitors if there are any.
  • Great spot, good parking. Bring a torch, warm clothes. Keep quiet and use the torch sparingly and the glow worms will be well worth a visit.
  • It's free !!!!! Yes u can see lots of glow worm in the dark tunnel~ try not to turn on light in order to adjust your eyes!! Keep walking on left side, it's amazing !
  • Feels like you've stepped into the jungle, just minutes up the path. We were there at the wrong time of day, so didn't see any glow worms. Plan for it more thoughtfully than we did, if you want to see them ;-) at this freely and easily accessible place.
  • Go there. Look and watch using ur eyes, not your camera. Keep quiet and feel the environment. It is worth your few mins. Go during night time, best during total darkness.
