Hobbiton Movie Set Reviews
Oh, well this is it after travelling half a day from Manila to Auckland, and another 2 hours by land to Matamata, we finally set foot on the actual scenes of the 2 trilogies (LOTR and Hobbits) that we... more »

As others have said, this is an awesome attraction even if you aren’t a Hobbit or LOTR fan. The grounds are beautiful. The attention to detail is amazing. It makes you want to see the movies if you ha... more »
I would have to say that this was by far the best and most well run tour that I have ever been on. From start to finish the experience was first rate. Being the idiot I am I showed up a day early for the evening banquet tour and Sunny & Sam (who were also our guides) arranged to get us on that nights tour and did so with a smile. The tour around the Hobbiton was just spectacular. It was amazing to see the hobbit holes up close and the attention to detail in making them was impeccable. The stop at the Green Dragon Inn at the end of the tour was definitely a highlight. To sit and have an ale by the fire followed by a banquet dinner at the famed middle earth inn is something that I will truly never forget. The whole experience was absolutely incredible and this was due largely to our guides Sunny and Sam. Two genuinely nice guys they were informative, entertaining, engaging and I cannot speak highly enough of them.
One of the best attractions during my trip to NZ. Actually it was the reason for NZ in the first place. Why I loved it? Not only was it in The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit, it is accurate and more beautiful in real life! The tour + lunch combo was well worth the price as they tell some details about the sets that I never knew about! The tour was roughly 2.5 hours where they guide you through Hobbiton. One of the best part was drinking at the Green Dragon near the end before getting on the tour bus. One thing to note is that the tours go in groups, taking turns to each area of Hobbiton. I felt rushed most of the time as we had to move to the next area, not enough time for individual photos. It was fighting to get photos in quickly as possible before moving on. And with other groups in the picture, it was hard to get those perfect photos in.
I CANNOT RAVE ABOUT THIS ENOUGH. It was literally 2 hours of continual Bliss and ecstasy as I got to stand in the exact spots as those in some of my favorite movies. It was a little speedy, but it had to be since there were so many people going through. I would have turned around and experienced it again immediately after we finished. The set was immaculate, the vegetation was amazing, and the staff was incredible. I cannot wait to go back to New Zealand one day and get to experience it again. Loved every minute of it.
Famous place due to its movie set. Very touristic. :) Be aware to book ticket in advance! otherwise you either need to wait late timing or back in another day since it's sold out easily. We also were there with a bit shower, so not excited to be honest as most of places are outdoor.
It’s a pretty decent day out and if you’re into the movies I’m sure it’s probably your Mecca. The cafe is good quality and reasonably priced and a cozy place to grab a coffee whilst you wait for your tour. There are only 5 toilet stalls on site however so there are queues. The tour guide was great, very enthusiastic but too quiet given the size of the groups and outdoor setting so a lot of information was missed. The set itself is very good, a lot more compact than i thought it would be. The hobbit holes are well kept, the grounds are maintained meticulously. Great photo opportunities. The complimentary drink at the green dragon inn was a nice touch it’s a shame there’s no opportunity to sit and have a decent afternoon in there. Highly recommended. One for the bucket list.
