Puketarata Garden, Hawera

Categories: Gardens, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
5/5 based on a few reviews on the web
A country garden developed since 1978, Puketarata Garden folds quietly around a hilltop site with mountain and inland Taranaki views. Adjacent to the outer ramparts of 400-year-old Puketarata Pa and Kainga Keteonatea have a major significance to the area. A love of natives skilfully blended with exotic varieties giving seasonal variety is a particular strength. Generous herbaceous plantings, lawn tennis court, perennial border, orchard, berry house, vegetable garden, and parterre are enhanced by the wider landscape. Diversity of different areas, planting, and design give this garden its individual and unique character. The gully below has a QEII Covenant, with natives, exotics, and walking tracks. Large coach tours can be picked up from the road by appointment. Judged as a garden of National Significance by NZGT. The garden is in the Taranaki PowerCo Garden Festival in the first week of November each year - there are some 50 gardens open throughout Taranaki. The garden is open by appointment during the year. The best time for the garden is spring--September-November. Using our custom trip planner, Hawera attractions like Puketarata Garden can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
