Te Mata Peak, Hastings
(4.9/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
Climb Te Mata Peak to the lookout point for bracing air and spectacular views. The 399 m (1,309 ft) high peak provides a great vantage point for the surrounding area, including the Heretaunga Plains and Hawke's Bay. Many short and longer trails for hiking and mountain biking crisscross the peak, with options for beginning, intermediate, and advanced hikers. The site has significance in Maori legend, and archeological research in the surrounding park suggests it was heavily settled at some point by indigenous communities. European settlers largely deforested the peak and surrounding area, which is now a combination of rocky cliffs and green rolling hills and valleys. • You can drive right to the top. That's what I thought was the best usually I have to walk 30 minutes to get a beautiful view like that. Well worth it.
  • This is a wonderful viewpoint to see the whole of Hawkes Bay on a fine day. Just need to take some care on this narrow, windy road as it is quite narrow near the top.
  • The drive up to the summit is easy but you can stop at points along the way if you want to walk up but when you get to the top, WOW the sight is breathtaking

  • Amazing views! The red route is a decent hike with steep sections, but well worth it.
  • this lower mountain is heat up my car~ lol, maybe is my car got too old. but we did have a lot of fun here cool & awesome
  • The most beautiful vista in the Hawkes Bay. Come up here for a sunrise or sunset, enjoy views all the way around 360 degrees. Well worth the drive, or if you're keen, walk/run up to the top!
  • Wonderfull 360 view when the weather is good
  • Great tracks, short and long, for all levels of fitness. The views are astounding once you make it to the top.
