Cathedral Cove, Hahei

(4.7/5 based on 1,400+ reviews on the web)
Spend a day surrounded by breathtaking beaches, a crystal-clear sea, lush vegetation, and impressive rock formations at Cathedral Cove. The cove's most prominent feature is the towering natural archway that connects two scenic bays. Its sandy beaches are perfect for relaxing by the sea, while the abundance of marine life makes the cove a great snorkeling destination. No roads lead to the cove, so you can access it either by a hiking trail or from the sea. Even though the hike to the cove is not too long or difficult, make sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring sufficient supplies of food and water--the beaches are in a protected area and don't have any facilities. With our international travel planner, Hahei attractions like Cathedral Cove can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Its a must do when you go to Coromandel. The cathedral cove landmark is a rock formation near the beach which you can walk through. You can also swim on the both side of the cove. The water is steady ...  more »

  • We visited this place by boat. It is a popular swimming spot. Safe swimming area lot's of natural shade interesting place to visit, as the landscape is the point of interest here.

  • WOW! What an amazing Beach!! I enjoyed this day more than others. The hike down to Cathedral Cove is around one and a half miles to two miles away from the parking lot and its certainly not a bad hike. It does go up and down a bit but nothing strenuous. I would rate this hike a 3 or 4 out of 10. One thing that is always a compliant is parking! There is only one parking lot and it fills up REALLY fast. We were lucky and literally had someone leave just before us so we got in fast but I met several people who had to wait awhile before a spot opened up. Beyond that this is a wonderful spot to sit on the beach and enjoy the beautiful New Zealand coast line.
  • A great walking experience and very popular. The council need to address the parking demand. Perhaps a carpark down on the flat area with a shuttle service would eliminate the conjestion. The cove is very beautiful and unspoilt. I hope it stays this way. This walk coupled with hot water beach is a great days outing. Enjoy
  • The scenery itself is AMAZING, however the carpark was almost always full. I can't imagine how anyone finds a spot in the summer! We came on a Saturday in July (winter). The hilly walk to Cathedral Cove is sealed gravel and very accessible. Beautiful views.
  • A spectacular place to spend a day. A short walk through semi-wild New Zealand gets you to a beautiful beach. Might be a challenge if you have issues with mobility and it certainly is a popular spot so expect crowds but definitely worth the walk.
  • Quite small, come early or park far away down the hill. 6 spots for overnight self-contained stay. You don't want to use the toilet.
