  • Worth the visit, very interesting reconstruction of life in the place; the short trip on unmissable steam train

  • We drive from Greymouth, just a few kilometers come up we to shantytown, where a gold rush town is represented. We stay there several hours unexpectedly, because the whole thing is very interesting. You can imagine how the large broken stones with a hammer mill and a Wasserades were crushed. Then it goes in shanty town with the coal-fired and this steam-powered locomotive through the dense woods to the sawmill. This is were delivered very interesting as the huge tree trunks and then sawn. Then it goes into the gold mining town and you can see how the mining has developed. The whole thing was made more professional until finally using large syringes the Earth was washed away and then away from each other on small wooden stairs, sand, stones, and gold. Highly recommended

  • Charming little place but if you have seen Cockington green, Timbertown or any of the other "re-created" villages around the world then there is no novelty or distinct feature here. The train ride is ...  more »

  • Great visit to Greymouth on the Trans alphine. Shanty Town is a must do!
  • Pretty uninformative and non-genuine. Definite lack of signs and information boards. There's not much to do once you've wandered around the artificial ye olde buildings. The gold-panning sounded fun, but: it costs extra; and is completely orchestrated in wooden basin things, in which you're guaranteed to find some planted specs of gold (which you can then trade for a drink).
  • Interesting and a lot of fun for a young family
  • Wild west coast
  • Very nice open-air museum. There are lot of wekas. It must go. Can be a little tour by train to steam.
