East Cape Lighthouse, Gisborne
(4.6/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web)
Ponder New Zealand's maritime heritage at East Cape Lighthouse, a historical cylindrical tower standing proudly above East Cape. Climb up the 700 steps to reach its base, gaze out over the coastline it watches over, and imagine a time before modern nautical technology. You can stand directly beneath the tower and take in the panoramic view that it affords, but note that access to the lighthouse itself is not available to the public. Use our Gisborne vacation planner to add East Cape Lighthouse and other attractions to your Gisborne vacation plans.

  • If you're wondering where the sun comes up each day as the first, so here you correctly, yes right here it is. You have to ride lots and lots of stairs, because otherwise it or not when you want to to the lighthouse:-), but it's really worth it. The views are magnificent and the "subtext", that you are in a place where the sun rises every day as the first, this is a must see.
