#2 of 9 in Things to do in Devonport
Explore New Zealand's naval history since the Flagstaff war of 1845 at Torpedo Bay Navy Museum, the official museum of New Zealand's navy. Having undergone a 1.5 million dollar refurbishment in 2010, the museum contains captivating displays on the Korean War, World War II, and the New Zealand-funded British battle cruiser, HMS New Zealand (look for the Maori warrior skirt given to the ship's commanding officer when it reached the country's shores in 1913). Children get the chance to dress in naval uniform and to consider the lives of servicemen and women at sea in interactive, immersive exhibits. The Naval Museum offers a fantastic insight into NZ's Naval history. The hands in exhibits show a smidge of how tough life must have been but also how much pride was experienced by the crews of the vessels. A must see if your have time in Auckland.

The history, prestige and quality of this museum is one to not be missed. On a beautiful sunny day you can also take a walk down to the little beach just below the parking. Great family morning or afternoon out.

Good coffee with fair prices. Food is good and the view is great. The museum is really interesting, some great stories of the RNZN and NZers participation in the RN.
