Explore New Zealand's naval history since the Flagstaff war of 1845 at Torpedo Bay Navy Museum, the official museum of New Zealand's navy. Having undergone a 1.5 million dollar refurbishment in 2010, the museum contains captivating displays on the Korean War, World War II, and the New Zealand-funded British battle cruiser, HMS New Zealand (look for the Maori warrior skirt given to the ship's commanding officer when it reached the country's shores in 1913). Children get the chance to dress in naval uniform and to consider the lives of servicemen and women at sea in interactive, immersive exhibits.
