Mount Victoria Reserve, Devonport

(4.7/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Head up to Mount Victoria Reserve for panoramic views of the Auckland skyline across Waitemata Harbour. Aside from the scenery, the park features a field of "painted mushrooms" that serve as decorative vents for an underground water pumping station. You can reach the reserve via a 10-20 minute uphill walk or by driving, biking, or riding a Segway. Parking at the top is limited. On your way up, stop in at the historical Signalman’s House, which used to inform locals of ship departures and arrivals. The access road also features numerous shops and cafes. Bring a jacket because it's often blustery at the top. Add Mount Victoria Reserve and other attractions to your Devonport trip itinerary using our Devonport vacation generator.

  • The climb up the hill is not too difficult and the view is worth it. The old fortifications are interesting.

  • I am a local from Devonport and this place is a casual, senic hill great for summer walks and picnics. A popular activitie is sliding down the slopes atop a peice of scrap cardboard (you will often find cardboard peices left on the slopes).
  • Best place to go in Devonport. Only need 15 minutes walk from port to mountain top. The scene is awwwwwwesome and amazing beautiful.
