Create an itinerary including Mount Victoria Reserve
Head up to Mount Victoria Reserve for panoramic views of the Auckland skyline across Waitemata Harbour. Aside from the scenery, the park features a field of "painted mushrooms" that serve as decorative vents for an underground water pumping station. You can reach the reserve via a 10-20 minute uphill walk or by driving, biking, or riding a Segway. Parking at the top is limited. On your way up, stop in at the historical Signalman’s House, which used to inform locals of ship departures and arrivals. The access road also features numerous shops and cafes. Bring a jacket because it's often blustery at the top. Use Inspirock's suggestions to plan your Devonport trip and find the best activities and attractions for your vacation.

  • It may be easier to go to North Head for the views, as the way here is steep and has to be done on foot unless you get permission to drive up the road. I got to the top and found the views as good...

  • Pauline from Segway Tours at the Ferry Terminal is an amazing guide. The Mt Victoria tour is fun, informative, and straight out cool 😎. Highly recommend.

  • Love this place, one of the classic spots I use to visit when I was growing up, so neat to be there again, just a shame you can't drive to the top.

  • So peaceful now that cars aren’t allowed up too. Really great views from the summit. Well worth the walk.
  • Themed and accent and everything. Not overly expensive. My meal looked a little rustic but it grew on me. Would dine there again quite happily.
  • Stunning views of the city and surrounding bay. Highest point in Devonport area. Has a small bunker and gun as a bonus perk for visitors interested in history. Believe it was built in the late 19th century.
  • Just such a lovely walk with outstanding views. I'm not saying it's the best volcanic walk in Auckland, but only because there are so many
  • Fabulous views of Auckland, the harbour bridge etc. Pleasant walk up a fairly steep hill, good for the heart and lungs. The bunker near the top is a venue for folk music.
