Wildlife Area
Willowbank Wildlife Reserve provides a glimpse into New Zealand's natural heritage and addresses the issues that threaten its future. The reserve's 50-plus animals are grouped into three categories that track the development of the country's ecosystem: Wild New Zealand features animals introduced in the early days of the country; Heritage New Zealand houses domesticated creatures that have shaped the nation's farming industry; and Natural New Zealand supports the iconic and rare species that make up its special ecological community. Kiwis, kea, gibbons, wallabies, and more can all be found at the reserve. Purchase some food bags to feed the critters before chowing down yourself at the onsite restaurant. Our Christchurch trip itinerary builder makes visiting Willowbank Wildlife Reserve and other Christchurch attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • It has been a while since my last visit. Good place to take kids around for half a day. Feeding the tame animals is great. Not cheap but worth a visit  more »
  • Buy a years pass and take the kids on days when you don't have anything to do, bit expensive to go just once otherwise. Our little one loves it, especially feeding the animals. The cafe is nice and la...  more »

  • Had a great day here. Really well laid out. Good information boards. Nice picnic area with toilets and cafe. You can get nice and close to lots of the animals. A good change from your regular zoo, but better than a farm yard petting place. The only improvement would be a separate baby change area rather than having it in each of the male and female toilets.
  • On my visit to Christchurch I visted this place and loved it. It was easy to catch the bus there. The staff were friendly and nice. The grounds with all the plants etc have been done extremely well and really make you feel relaxed and in a peaceful environment. I love the fact you are walking among a lot of plants as well seeing the animals. When I went into eating area they served me the food I wanted and as it was winter they had the big fireplace going, which they stoked up to keep me warm. It was so nice and cosy next to the fireplace while I ate and I did not want to leave. LOL. Great experience and I would love to come back.
  • Great for adults and younger children. A wide range of animals to pet and feed. Makes a great day out.
  • had a fantastic time. Credit to all. well presented and easy to get around. loads of fun.
  • Great place. You can hand feed the animals. I was hoping to see more kiwis. It felt a bit more like a zoo. But great place to spend a few hours.
