TranzAlpine Train takes you on the reportedly best scenic train tour in New Zealand. Ride through tunnels and viaducts, along fertile plains and an icy river, and over deep ravines. The train route goes through misty alpine mountains and thick forests of native beech. Observe the snowcapped peaks from the comfort of a top-class carriage with panoramic windows and a cafe. The train's final stop makes a good base for further exploration of the scenic highland landscape featuring wild streams, glaciers, and well-known pancake rocks. • This was great relaxing and scenic way to get from Christchurch to Greymouth. We were traveling to Greymouth to pick up a car to drive down to Queenstown. The train does handle luggage. The passenger cars are very comfortable with large seats, a dining car, and an open observation car. There is audio commentary provided via the free headphones that are provided. The train does make one stop at Arthurs Pass for about 5 minutes, so there is very limited time to get out and walk around. The food that is for sale is quite good and not too terribly expensive. I would definitely do this train journey again.
  • First i thought it is a little bit expensive for just a ride with the train, but it was worth it! U reach areas, u can´t reach with the bike. We had amazing weather, starting in sunny Christchurch. A long the seas u can shot so many beautiful pictures! A top in Arthur´s Pass was a lot of snow what makes it so special that you ride from the ocean into a winter wonderland in just two hours. I loved it to stay most of the time on the platform outside of the car.
  • Only rode to Arthur's Pass, but it was some of the most spectacular scenery I've ever seen, on the most comfortable train ever
  • This was simply one of the best places in New Zealand (south island), specially in winter to see all of the stunning views I've ever visited in my life so far 😀👍❄
  • Good train with beautiful scenic view and food
