One Tree Hill (Maungakiekie), Auckland
Categories: Volcanos, Landmarks, Tourist Spots, Nature & Parks
One of the many small, dormant volcanic cones that lie through the city, One Tree Hill (Maungakiekie) features an urban park with giant trees, wide avenues, plenty of trails to explore, and a viewing platform on the top of the hill. Visit the astronomical observatory or wander around looking at the sheep and cattle. Walk up to the top to see the grave of Sir John Logan Campbell, marked by an obelisk facing a bronze statue of a Māori warrior. At the information center learn about the geologic and human history of the hill through interactive exhibits, and pick up maps for the volcanic and archeological trails. No camping is allowed on site, but you can bring along a snack and choose a picnic spot or use one of the many free barbecue sets. If the height of the Sky Tower puts you off going up there come to One Tree Hill and enjoy the stunning views of the whole city from there.
Great view of the city, drive up or park in Cornwall park and a short walk up the road or one of the many sheep tracks.
It's high up so there's lots of scenery to see below. Quick stop and moved on. It's great to see it but go with a local or guide to learn more or ask around. There's a ton of legends around here.

Excellent place to visit with family amazing views , cattle field , sheeps field and one tree hill a historic place with great views of Auckland city.
A little busy, but a great place for a picnic! Lots to explore and tonnes of hiking trails of varying levels. The playground was quite packed but looked like a lot of fun. The stardome here was also interesting. Limited parking opportunities. Great views of Auckland from the top of One Tree Hill though!
Simply a must visit place. And definitely a place to take visitors. Awesome views, good access (even for those struggling with mobility ), and historically significant. Even better in spring when the flowers are blooming.
Great place for relaxing. Have wide park and lots of sheep!! Mountain top is another viewpoint you must go once!!
Amazing views and an amazing history. I still remember visiting when the "one tree" was still there.
