  • I believe the cafe is on the second floor. We had two flat white coffees and a muffin for $13.00. Staff are friendly and there are washroom facilities. Clean.  more »

  • Went into Smith and Caugheys Newmarket branch today, walked in to buy an Estee Lauder Double wear foundation as i was all out. Not one staff member acknowledged i had even walked in store and all but ignored me when i was waiting at the Estee Lauder counter, obviously wanting assistance, i saw staff looking at me but just ignored me and talked amongst themselves, there were hardly any customers instore so i found that very disappointing. I waited waited at the counter looking around for anyone to just sell me the foundation…It is extremely poor service in the make up department all the girls look young and are just talking to each other not offering any assistance they clearly saw me but ignored me. After around 10mins with no help or contact i left and went and purchased my makeup from St Lukes Farmers as the staff there are much more friendlier even if they are not in the Estee Lauder department they always offer help. You won't get that at Newmarket. Smith and Caughey's desperately need to train their staff in customer service and to at least say hello when someone walks into their store. Extremely disappointed and will not be returning their again. You get better service at Farmers or at any cheap store
  • I am appalled by the service in Smith & Caughey. The staff ignore you, even when they see you and do not greet you nor ask if you need help even though it's perfectly clear that I'm standing in the middle of the room trying to find someone to help. I was in the underwear section, and eventually I got help but when I needed different sizes, there was no one around, meaning, you have to get fully dressed again to go out and get help, only to go through the whole process again. It's a mission to get into the city and find parking, so after such a frustrating experience, I absolutely will never go through that again. The store is dated, clothes are untidy and badly displayed, the choice options are unappealing. I cannot wait for David Jones to open here, and put an end to this unhelpful unfriendly store. Do the staff get no training in basic customer service?? Used to be very different years ago when you count on excellent service. Those days are over. Save yourself an awful experience and shop elsewhere.
  • The classiest Dept store in AUckland. Not the cheapest but if you want up market products and brands this is the place to go
  • Love this shop. Always so many cool things to look at!
  • Auckland's largest and most renowned department store. You can find everything from cosmetics to children's toys here. Do expect to pay department store prices. Having been to big department stores in New York, Smith & Caughey's could improve a lot if they wanted to spend the money on improving the store and environment. On a positive note, their annual Christmas windows are the best in the country and always a joy to see.
