Saint Joseph's Cathedral, Noumea

Categories: Churches, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.1/5 based on 70+ reviews on the web
Dedicated to Saint Joseph, the Catholic Saint Joseph's Cathedral serves as one the island's landmarks, dating back to the 19th century. Architects scrapped the original idea of including traditional spires fearing damage from cyclones, and instead endowed the stone building with large stained-glass windows and an intricately carved pulpit, altar panels, and confessional. Don't be discouraged if you find the main door closed upon your arrival. Make your way to the side doors, which remain unlocked throughout the day. Plan to see Saint Joseph's Cathedral and other attractions that appeal to you using our Noumea vacation trip planner.

  • Beautiful monument. To light a candle, find someone to get out you a candle. A little dark.

  • This cathedral feels like it is straight out of France. When the side doors are open, there is a fantastic breeze going through. There is a beautiful view of Port Moselle from the main doors too.
  • Beautiful building that allows to have a beautiful view on the city of Noumea. Simple but calling Cathedral to serenity
