Where to stay in Noumea

There are few budget options in Nouméa, but a good selection of mid-range hotels. Most are concentrated in Anse Vata, at the southernmost tip of the peninsula, where you'll find palm-fringed beaches and plentiful bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. For something a little more central, consider one of the comfortable hotels around Place Des Cocotiers. The picturesque square is close to the marinas and cathedral, and makes a great base from which to explore the city.

  • They only accept local currency (200 franc about $3au) which we did not have so we were not allowed entry. They must lose many tourist because of this. You would think they would accept Aussie dollars or credit card. Disappointed.
