Ile aux Canards island, Noumea

3.9
Famed for its coral reef, the tiny Ile aux Canards island remains a snorkeling paradise just a stone's throw from the mainland. See exotic marine life up close and personal, or just stay on the sand and relax. Rent a beach chair and umbrella, and pick up a few snacks at the cafe serving light meals and drinks. Remember to wear reef shoed to avoid cutting your feet on washed-up coral. If you can, avoid visiting when a cruise ship arrives to take adavantage of the best spots on the sand. • A must do. If you only do one thing in Noumea make sure you visit this island and see the reef trail with your own eyes, snorkel and flippers. Magestic.  more »
  • The island was rocky... no smooth sand. The water is very shallow and it is difficult to snorkel. The cafe has food, but really overpriced. Save time and money and check out other beaches and islands.  more »
  • Well worth the quick water taxi ride from Noumea’s Anse Vata beach for 1125 pacific francs/$17AUD return. It’s a small, attractive island with a coral beach (tough on the feet - wear your thongs/flip....  more »

  • Have to say the snorkeling was disappointing, most of the reef is dead but there are plenty of fish. My sister and I came here and brought our own drinks and food and they didn’t seem to mind as drinks and food are very expensive.
  • Snorkeling here is awesome, easy access from the beach to the colourful coral reef. Definitely a must go, take the taxi boat from Anse Vata or Lemon Bay... a bit costly to hire umbrella and chairs...
  • The reef part that they recommend a snorkel at is awesome. The rest of the reef around the island is dead. Definitely worth a visit though
  • Loved the snorkelling here. Went over on the glass bottomed boat, stunning
  • Beautiful island. Great snorkeling, but has a lot of stingers. The restaurant was amazing. Great experience, would recommend.
