Anse Vata Beach, Noumea

3.9
#1 of 33 in Outdoors in Noumea
A stretch of white sand, Anse Vata Beach provides nearly perfect kitesurfing and windsurfing conditions. Despite the windy conditions, the current usually stays calm and safe enough for children and inexperienced swimmers. If you prefer to snorkel, check out the mini reef by the pier. Take a packed lunch and picnic with friends and family on the spacious grassy areas, or walk just across the road for some cafes and restaurants. • On a short trip ashore form the Cruise Ship, we enjoyed using the Hop on Hop Off bus and travelled to Lemon Bay and Anse Vata Beach. Gorgeous beaches with the cleanest and clearest water. There were q...  more »
  • The beach itself is really long and seems to go for miles. But it's not the most comfortable to walk along in bare feet. The coral sand, shells and rocks don't make it wasy. In the water, you walk ove...  more »
  • Our arrival in NC around 10: 00 (for a stay of 3 weeks), we could have a picnic on the beach of Anse-Vata. I found no great change (back after 30 years); always as attractive, with its wind makes fun of kite-surfers now, and always of the windsurfers or fun-boarders. Range of normal dimension, maintained and built sports areas (bodybuilding, petanque...) Small children in the Group had in barely more fresh water for us who come from Tahiti. On the other side of the road to four lanes, hotels and small snacks... a glacier above all that made the pleasure of small and large in the late afternoon. We finished the ride by a tour at Ouen-Toro (at the end of beach) with its natural park and its top that allows a 360 degree view of the city of Noumea and its surroundings. Day filled with printing and intend to have a good holiday! Who says better?

  • Beautiful beach. The place is frequented by the boarder fun. For swimming, it's good but not top because of exposure common to the prevailing wind. Beach where many events take place (international triathlon, race of rafts, fire of fireworks, etc...). Possible departure to the islets in taxi-boat.

Where to stay in Noumea

There are few budget options in Nouméa, but a good selection of mid-range hotels. Most are concentrated in Anse Vata, at the southernmost tip of the peninsula, where you'll find palm-fringed beaches and plentiful bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. For something a little more central, consider one of the comfortable hotels around Place Des Cocotiers. The picturesque square is close to the marinas and cathedral, and makes a great base from which to explore the city.
