Amedee Lighthouse, Noumea

The first metal lighthouse constructed in France, Amedee Lighthouse sits inside a World Heritage-listed lagoon. The island features white-sand beaches and teal-blue waters and lures snorkelers and swimmers with its coral reefs, where tropical fish, turtles, and starfish await. When you visit the lighthouse, wear comfortable shoes and climb 247 steps to the top to take in views of the lagoon. Be aware of the island's snakes, and look out for their tracks in the sand. • Great 360 degree view from the lighthouse of the entire island and reef gor just $4. Great snorkelling with plenty of turtles. Mary D has a brand new boat and they do a great job with a beautiful lunch and entertainment too!
  • Awesome view, saw lots of turtles, great for snorkelling, and would definitely recommend the glass bottom boat. And if you don't mind all the steps, then it's definitely worth the 50 min boat ride🎉 (which can be choppy)
  • absolutely stunning island, its a must do experience
  • Had a great day out to Amadee Island thanks to the guys at LocaJet jet skis. Julian made us very welcome and explained everything in English for us. Unfortunately the (huge) local ferry company (Fare Amadee) had basically excluded anyone who hadn't gone there by ferry, so we felt quite unwelcome when we arrived on the island, and entire areas were cordoned off for use of the ferry passengers only. The island is quite small, (even smaller with the roped off areas) but a beautiful place to spend an afternoon. The JetSki experience and closeness to the beautiful sea was simply amazing and made for an unforgettable day out. I would definitely go there by Jet Ski again!!
  • Beautiful island. I saw turtles and quite a few fish. There is also a small patch of coral.

Where to stay in Noumea

There are few budget options in Nouméa, but a good selection of mid-range hotels. Most are concentrated in Anse Vata, at the southernmost tip of the peninsula, where you'll find palm-fringed beaches and plentiful bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. For something a little more central, consider one of the comfortable hotels around Place Des Cocotiers. The picturesque square is close to the marinas and cathedral, and makes a great base from which to explore the city.
