Grotte de Hortense, Ile Des Pins
Categories: Caves, Nature & Parks
Discover a bit of regional history by visiting Grotte de Hortense, a cave where a local chief's wife once hid to escape intertribal conflict in 1855. Access to the cave requires a short hike through the rainforest. A path leads visitors to the large mouth of the cave, naturally decorated with eye-catching stalactites. Take a flashlight if you want to venture farther in than a few steps, and remember to wear sturdy hiking shoes suitable for wet paths. Put Grotte de Hortense on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Ile Des Pins itinerary builder.
