Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar), Patan (Lalitpur)

4.7
#1 of 13 in Historic Sites in Patan (Lalitpur)
A combination of impressive architecture and intricate ornaments makes Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar) Patan's favorite place of worship. A world in itself, this three-storey golden monastery provides a sanctuary of smells and colors with flowers, incense, and high-quality bronze and silver works. A gilded image of Lord Buddha, guardian lions, and a large prayer wheel are among the site's top curiosities, along with special places to feed rats. • The Hiranya Varna Mahavihar belongs to the oldest and most impressive sacred buildings in Patan, and in contrast to the rather closed Hindu temples one is invited open here by the Buddhist monks to the experience. The small entrance fee is necessarily worthwhile.

  • Here was a Buddhist temple at Hindu temples in Katmandu. Pay the admission fee NRs50 at the entrance. Like cowhide NG (previously thought and the shoes must be disambiguated using the skin is all it is safe) which is from the entrance, and slippers are provided. So as it happens, had a plastic bag put my shoes in a plastic bag in, enters. No you will not use the skin, such as sneakers, shoes off. Everyone wearing shoes was coming. Buddha is about 3 m left in the stairway to the second floor, so up on the second floor and a glass showcase at was 坐shite. At this time, again, this temple was WAT omoiokoshimashita.

  • Although it is a bit hidden with a good guide, everything is solved. A very interesting visit. Recommended 100%.

Where to stay in Patan (Lalitpur)

With its array of palaces and temples, Patan (Lalitpur) cannot be said to live in the shadow of Kathmandu when it comes to places to visit and things to see. However, many more visitors decide to stay in the nearby capital, which offers an extensive range of hotels and guesthouses, particularly in the Thamel area. But Patan (Lalitpur) itself--a little quieter, particularly in the evening--offers a good selection of places to stay, including hotels, hostels, and guesthouses across the central area, close to the main square.
