(4.1/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
See the birthplace of Buddha at Lumbini Monastic Site, where you can admire monasteries and temples featuring designs from all around the world. The site combines many temples to create a huge open-air museum, with its east monastic zone dedicated to Theravada monasteries, and the west zone featuring traditional Mahayana monasteries. Keep an eye out for the many birds that inhabit the site, as well as the plentiful fish in living in a series of ponds. You can walk or rent a bike to get around the expansive complex. • We had high hopes for Lumbini, getting a coach straight from Chitwan after being recommended the visit. We soon found the coach doesn't actually take you all the way to lumbini itself, it randomly sto...  more »
  • Two opinions: the religious side or the temples are beautiful and durable made, we meet many pilgrims and we appreciate the architecture, different visions of Buddhism and the State of mind (of the monasteries for peace), Ca it is interesting and invited to the spiritual path. Next, the village of lumbini or we don't see no tourists and therefore no religious, and where poverty is omnipresent. It's hard to swallow when visiting two sites in the same day. I felt less hypocritical in the village to share smiles and photos with locals in the monasteries resembles cold though well-meaning...

  • Lumbini has been a city that has given me peace and quiet, I have never taken off the smile! Lumbini has a magical atmosphere (or that's what I perceived myself). I rented a bike (much more practical ride than walk:) and I visited the place. The monastic site is a kind of "Park" where there are countless temples representing all Buddhist Asian city (Temple corean, Chinese ...). I liked it a lot and Lumbini is an essential stop on a trip to Nepal!
