Narayanhiti Palace Museum, Kathmandu

(3.7/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
Explore the history and enjoy the architecture of Narayanhiti Palace Museum, the former residence of the royal family. Designed in late Victorian style, each room in the palace takes its name from one of Nepal's 75 districts. Go through the reception hall, then see banquet halls, royal bedrooms, and the throne room, which resembles the architectural style of a Hindu temple. In the throne room, whose ceilings reach a height of 18 m (60 ft), you can see a monumental 14.5 m (48 ft) chandelier, as well as various paintings, stuffed animal heads, and photos of the royal family with other national leaders adorning the walls. In 2001, the royal family was massacred in mysterious circumstances, with bullet holes scattered across the palace's walls serving as stark reminders of the tragedy. Cameras and bags are forbidden, but you can keep your belongings in the lockers at the entrance. By using our Kathmandu vacation generator, you can arrange your visit to Narayanhiti Palace Museum and other attractions in Kathmandu.
