Hanuman Dhoka, Kathmandu

(4.2/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
Step into the cultural history of Nepal when visiting Hanuman Dhoka, a long-time Hindu pilgrimage site. The location was heavily damaged by the 2015 earthquake that hit the region, though repairs have restored many buildings and reinforced others. Originally built with only one wing of the current area in the mid-16th century, the rest of the complex was added building by building by monarchs and ministers over the next three centuries. See where the royal family was housed for years, and walk through history to learn about Hindu beliefs. Work out when and for how long to visit Hanuman Dhoka and other Kathmandu attractions using our handy Kathmandu vacation trip planner.

  • After the April 25, 2015 : the temples and Durbarsquare is badly damaged and still needs reconstruction and rennovation..
  • Nice for people watching but the building itself is not very nice anylonger. There are so many nicer buildings. And prices for entry are steep
  • One of the main features of Kathmandu Durbar Square worth exploring. Despite damages from the 2015 earthquake, it remains a worthwhile feature of Old Kathmandu to check out.

  • This is beautiful and historical place one should visit. Kathmandu Durbar square was badly damage by the last earthquake (25 April 2015) but now rebuilding job has slowly begin. You can even enter Hanuman Dhoka Palace inside and look around from the ground (however museum is still close), it is one of my best place to go for sightseeing!
