Boudhanath (Stupa), Kathmandu

(4.6/5 based on 4,800+ reviews on the web)
One of the largest and most important structures of its kind in the country, Boudhanath (Stupa) holds a spot on the World Heritage List and serves as an icon of the city. Pay a visit to this holy site and you'll find it an epicenter of Tibetan Buddhism in the region, as the complex features a number of monasteries around it. Marvel at the stupa's massive base, topped with a sizable dome and a towering manadala, the golden triangular spire at the top. You can also admire the colorful statues around the dome and the tower's mysterious painted-on eyes. Rumor has it that circling the stupa can help to free you from your sins. The devastating earthquake in April of 2015 severely damaged the structure, causing the removal of the entire top portion and calling for a massive reconstruction project. • probably the first to be constructed after the earthquake. beautiful place to be in kathmandu. the road leading Boudha was narrow and chaotic but when you reach there all you forget and be in peace.
  • It is definitely a stunning stupa to visit if you want spare a whole day or afternoon to reflect yourself and explore inner peace.
  • We were assisted by a tour guide who spoke perfect English and was very prepared

  • A peaceful place just a few steps from all the chaos that the city offers. You will find a lot of people going around this majestic stupa. Add it up on your to-do list.
  • A very peaceful place to visit after a busy day in the city. It is full of tourists and locals alike. There are a lot of souvenir shops and cafés around as well.
  • Its a very beautiful place for peace loving people... it has historic stories encrypted on the walls... I went to this place on 21st April 2015 , jst 3 days before the earthquake. i came back to my home town from Nepal on 25th april and was shocked by seeing the news how this disaster destroyed evrything... i visited many places but nw evrything was completly destroyed... Thnk Gd that i came back early otherwise i would have been somewhre... The only difference between swayambhu temple and boudhanath temple is that the buddha drawn has a spiral nose on it and the boudhanath temple has a straight nose...
  • I go here for walk twice a week. And its just so peaceful. The best time to visit the stupa will probably be in the morning. You will get to experience the Buddhist people and their rituals Yes, there will be A LOT of people circling the stupa but the atmosphere will be very peaceful. The fragrance of the incense, the melodious tunes playing in different shops, everything gives a peaceful vibe.
  • nice Boudhanath is a stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is known as Khāsti in Nepal Bhasa, Jyarung Khashor in Tibetan language or as Bauddha by speakers of Nepali
