Pore over the broad variety of produce, spices, housewares, and clothing at Asan. The bustling market, spread over streets and narrow alleyways, was once strategically positioned along the India-Tibet trade route and has operated for centuries. Today it contains everything from food to textiles and merchandise, which you can peruse at your leisure among the locals who frequent the market. Various temples and shrines dot the streets of the bazaar, most notably the three-tiered temple to the goddess of abundance, in the southeast corner. Plan to explore and navigate the extremely narrow roads on foot. Put Asan on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Kathmandu tourist route planner.

  • It's basically a local market for the locals. Nothing much for tourists who are expecting trekking equipments or gifts. A kilometre down from Thamel.
  • in fact Asan is my favourite place in Kathmandu, bustling local daily activities is great for photographing. Seek local foods here... cheap and delicious.
