Taumadhi Square, Bhaktapur
(4.7/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Examples of intricate traditional temple architecture encircle Taumadhi Square, a large plaza in Bhaktapur. The Nyatapola temple to Siddhi Laxmi, goddess of female creativity and power, dominates the square. Nepali King Bhupatindra Malla oversaw the construction of this five-tiered wooden building (Nepal's tallest pagoda temple), completed in 1702. Other impressive temples, including the intricate Bhairavnath temple to Bhairab, abut the plaza. Afterwards, wander over to the nearby area where potters create and sell earthenware crafts. Work out when and for how long to visit Taumadhi Square and other Bhaktapur attractions using our handy Bhaktapur trip itinerary maker.

  • I prefer this to the Durbar Square. The Nyatapola temple is a beauty. This square is spacious and lively.
  • Also magnificent temples lining this place is the atmosphere that emanates from this place that I love: place of devotion, but also market place where one never tires of contemplating the inhabitants. Magic! Local guides are available for you to discover this wonderful city of Bhaktapur. I would recommend Sushant (tel: 9813605903) a young man who speaks English and knows perfectly the story and corners hidden from this Royal City.
