Taleju Chowk, Bhaktapur

3.6
#7 of 9 in Historic Sites in Bhaktapur
The oldest part of the former royal palace, Taleju Chowk represents an important religious site both for locals and pilgrims. Although non-Hindus cannot enter, all visitors may look through the doorway for a glimpse of the interior. Outside, explore other parts of this 16th-century masterpiece of architecture, from the golden entryway, to the courtyard and numerous wall carvings depicting scenes from Indian mythology. Look for the statue of the goddess Taleju Bhawani, to whom the temple is dedicated, kneeling on a column. Don't bring or wear anything made of leather, since such items are prohibited. • Another temple-Castle in the Centre of Kathmandu Durbar square entrance through Golden Gate Park. The part of filming is prohibited. A pair of buildings used by Kings, bath, in which they swam, with huge serpent-heads. Remains of buildings not impressive beauty, but very ancient.

  • If you try the entrance, gun-toting soldiers will stand. A Hindu symbol decorations above the entrance, is gorgeous. Exit left the National Gallery of art and has been misunderstood. As I got into in, without having to hold back on the soldiers. There is a pond for bathing. Taking photos except at the back of the next door, and the pond from the entrance, it is not. Taleju temple itself, let alone behind non-Hindus and Muslims was off limits, so you might feel a little disappointed, former Royal Palace worth a look there I think.

Where to stay in Bhaktapur

Peaceful and less crowded than Kathmandu, Bhaktapur lies close to the international airport, making it a good base for a Nepal vacation. You'll need to pay for a ticket to enter the city, but the proceeds from foreigners' visits help with reconstruction and restoration of Bhaktapur's countless historic buildings. Choose from a variety of accommodation options, most of them cozy, family-run guesthouses and inns situated in traditional buildings with modern amenities. Since vehicles are prohibited in Bhaktapur, plan to explore the tranquil town on foot. Fortunately, most of the hotels and guesthouses cluster around the historic center.
