Stare at a mesmerizing, massive reclining figure of Chaukhtatgyi Buddha, and the gilt robed giant will return a blissful smile to you. Housed in a huge metal shed, the 65 m (213 ft) long and 16 m (52 ft) high statue enjoys immense reverence in Myanmar. Started in 1899, the statue took until 1907 to complete and has since undergone several restorations. Note the scenes from Buddha's life carved into its feet.   • the place looks like under construction, due to the size of the Buddha. Certainly among the must do's in Yangon, if you have enough time. 
  • The size of these Buddhas is impressive, from a platform at the end, it is also possible to photograph the entire Buddha figure. However, the atmosphere in the Hall is rather sober. A visit of the giant Buddhas still belongs to the "mandatory" program in Yangon.

  • this is a truly amazing Buddha, and not to be missed when in Burma. Do watch the sellers who frequent the area selling their wares which are rather expensive
