Bogyoke Aung San Museum, Yangon (Rangoon)

3.9
#3 of 17 in Museums in Myanmar
Get a taste for the humble life of General Aung San, the founder of modern Myanmar, at Bogyoke Aung San Museum. The colonial-style villa displays black and white photographs, mementos, and books. Wind your way through the modest rooms stretched over two floors, decorated with simple furniture and a few personal belongings. Stroll to the garden pond, the site of the tragic death of one of general’s sons, then head to the garage to see the white vehicle the general used to drive. Although the captions come in English, they are quite brief. • I've not seen the museum, but the market of the same name is unique. In a space covered, square 200-meter, you have absolutely everything. Each area is specialized (stones, fabrics, wood, lacquer, etc.). Place where to finish his trip if we want to bring back souvenirs or gifts!

  • The museum celebrates the life and times of General Aung San. It is quite small and can be visited in under an hour. It is housed in a charming colonial building, the last home the famed political leader lived in before his assassination. A young Aung San Suu Kyi, the general's daughter and herself a prominent political personality, figures in a lot of the photos on display. For its size, the museum charges a steep fee of 5,000 kyats (about 4 USD), the same amount charged at the huge National Museum not far away.
  • A place to visit in Yangon if you are interested in historical places.
  • Very cool to see the home that Aung San Suu Kyi was raised.
  • Myanma historic leader's house
  • Its ahistorics place in Myanmar

Where to stay in Yangon (Rangoon)

It can be difficult to find decent budget accommodations in Yangon, especially downtown, where rooms are usually small and booked months in advance. Look farther away from the city center for cozier budget options, often with complimentary breakfast included. The Kandawgyi lakeside features a number of high-end establishments.
