Flea Market Shopping
Browse through Burmese handicrafts, foodstuffs, jewelry, paintings, lacquerware, and various hill-tribe textiles at Bogyoke Aung San Market, a major bazaar in downtown Yangon set in a large colorful colonial building. Also known as Scott’s Market among those who remember the British rule, the market serves as the city's most popular tourist destination for shopping. With over 1,600 shops, the loosely organized market offers a wide range of choices for local products, with streets around the covered market also offering a variety of goods. Try pork noodles in garlic oil, washed down with an avocado shake. Put Bogyoke Aung San Market and other Yangon (Rangoon) attractions into our Yangon (Rangoon) tour planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • The old market consists of many shops, mainly jewelry stores, but you can also find shops of cloths, souvenirs, etc. Overall doesn't sell anything special but if you have some free time you can take a ride.

  • Will find many small Myanmar souvenirs suitable for air travel. Better to shop mornings as temperature rises during day. Many shops do not have air conditioners but fans which may not be very effective.
  • Definitely a must visit location. Can be crowded and a bit confusing. Obviously use your judgement when getting "recommendations" from touts. Definitely a functional goods market, not just for tourists. Go upstairs for more local tailors and some great crafts and handmade goods. In anything, haggle some but expect to get what you pay for in terms of quality.
  • Best market for tourist to buy souviners from Myanmar such as gems, jade carvings, wood carvings, lacquer ware, puppets, clothing and so on. Public bathrooms here are just ok for emergency. Parking space very difficult. Drop off and pick up at a rendezvous point is highly recommended.
  • Mainly textile and Silk, Gold, jade and Jewelry focus. Around closing time as pm 5. very crowd. .So. should prepare the transportation in advance. . .
  • One of the must tourist attraction spot. All kind of souvenirs and local products can be found. You can get from fabric, music CDs to Jewlery. The market is well organized in a British-styled building.

Where to stay in Yangon (Rangoon)

It can be difficult to find decent budget accommodations in Yangon, especially downtown, where rooms are usually small and booked months in advance. Look farther away from the city center for cozier budget options, often with complimentary breakfast included. The Kandawgyi lakeside features a number of high-end establishments.
