Bogyoke Aung San Market, Yangon (Rangoon)
Categories: Flea Markets, Shopping
Browse through Burmese handicrafts, foodstuffs, jewelry, paintings, lacquerware, and various hill-tribe textiles at Bogyoke Aung San Market, a major bazaar in downtown Yangon set in a large colorful colonial building. Also known as Scott’s Market among those who remember the British rule, the market serves as the city's most popular tourist destination for shopping. With over 1,600 shops, the loosely organized market offers a wide range of choices for local products, with streets around the covered market also offering a variety of goods. Try pork noodles in garlic oil, washed down with an avocado shake. It is the market mostly for foreigners. You can get variety of souvenirs, goods and products. Pedestrians, vendors and most amazingly English speaking (not professionally) children are around. Bogyoke means "general" in Burmese and it was given after the name of father of Myanmar's independence.
A huge marketplace full of goods, foods, and souvineers. It had a great combination of cheap items made right in front of your eyes, as well as proper shops selling high quality goods. Easy to get souvineers for visitors. A nice place, will fill in a lot of time seeing everything.
Bogyoke Aung San Market is a major shopping in central Yangon for the souvenirs. Nearby is a shopping center Parkson from Singapore that provide aircon if you need to cool you down and a nice coffeeshop

One of the best places to shop, especially when you're looking for local products like clothes, jewelry and paintings. The colonial era market layout is so accurate bit that might lead the customers to get lost in it. Still a nightmare for me.
Tourist's attraction place of Yangon. Located in downtown area. Former name's is Scott market in British colonial era and changed to Bogyoke Market dedicated to world famous General Aung San who was assassinated in 19 July 1947. Popular for tourists in fabric, souvenir arts and handicrafts ,gems and jewelleries. You have to aware of prices in purchasing. It's better to get advise from local person or Tour guide before you buy.
