Bogyoke Aung San Market, Yangon (Rangoon)

(3.3/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
Browse through Burmese handicrafts, foodstuffs, jewelry, paintings, lacquerware, and various hill-tribe textiles at Bogyoke Aung San Market, a major bazaar in downtown Yangon set in a large colorful colonial building. Also known as Scott’s Market among those who remember the British rule, the market serves as the city's most popular tourist destination for shopping. With over 1,600 shops, the loosely organized market offers a wide range of choices for local products, with streets around the covered market also offering a variety of goods. Try pork noodles in garlic oil, washed down with an avocado shake. • Not much to say- you can buy nearly everything there.. But there is no Charme- we have seen better markets at the inlay lake or Even in kalaw. Very Touristic and expensive.
  • If you want to buy souvenirs in Yangon, this is the place to go. Pretty much anything you can think of is available here. Inexpensive jade (the industrial kind), amber, tiger eye stones, etc... For re...  more »
  • No worries because we were compact and very small shops are lined up, get lost, look very easy around. We walked for about an hour, but especially not ones I could. As a souvenir shops such as jewelry, gold, jade, t-shirts and cosmetics (Tanaka), the Japanese-owned gift shops (were selling cookies) etc. U.S. dollars, Myanmar chat, and other guides, it received explanation from Japan yen (Bill) also available.

  • Awesome place to buy jade, traditional Myanmar items , and jewelry. I think a little over priced, but interesting place to look around and Vist.
  • Huge indoor market named after the honored Bogyoke Aung San, father of the now famous Ann San Suu Kyi. Housing art, jewellery, souvenirs, jade, teak ornaments, fabric, t shirts, antiques, and handicrafts. Pricier than other markets, and for this reason, a bit of a tourist trap. But STI worth a visit. Enjoy milk tea and watch jewels and precious stones exchange hands in the center teashops.
  • Historical market built during colonial rule. There are plenty of stalls here, although a lot of them do sell the same thing. I've been told from a reliable source that a lot of the jade is genuine, however if you are a foreigner you will be quoted a much higher price than a local so do try to barter. Do not bother to try to park a car here at any time, it's virtually impossible to find space. Do walk as it is local to many areas
  • There is a huge workshop for local apparel industry on the first floor. The restaurant on the ground floor offers you local flavour.
  • Good whosale and retail place specialy for handicrafts and local goods. Extreme Bargain need to get suitable price. Gems and Stone is also significantly available with reasonable price.
