Browse through Burmese handicrafts, foodstuffs, jewelry, paintings, lacquerware, and various hill-tribe textiles at Bogyoke Aung San Market, a major bazaar in downtown Yangon set in a large colorful colonial building. Also known as Scott’s Market among those who remember the British rule, the market serves as the city's most popular tourist destination for shopping. With over 1,600 shops, the loosely organized market offers a wide range of choices for local products, with streets around the covered market also offering a variety of goods. • It is a market in downtown Yangon where you can find everything you need from a souvenir shop to a jewelry store and a garment shop. In addition, there are a variety of tourists and local people. Because there was room in time, I tailored the waist of the partner. The price is cheap in the first place, but I enjoyed the discount negotiation.

  • Well worth a visit. This market sells a variety handicrafts, fabrics, jewellery, clothes etc. Also sells drinks and food. You can sit on the street with a coffee and watch the action all around you. A...  more »
  • It is a staple if you see a souvenir! There are also a number of fashionable shops, and there are some stores that are run by Japanese, so it's fun to collect information on the Internet.

  • A must visit place in Yangon! Textiles and crafts shops complete with jewellery shops makes this place a true Burmese tourist as well as local attraction. There is something for everybody. Even if you are not purchasing anything, this place makes for a good walk or window shopping. Just take a walk and you will not be disappointed. For those buying jewellery, please do your own due diligence where required.
  • The Market is the Collection of Palaces of Diamond, Precious Stones and Gold and Platinum Ornaments. Once upon a Time it had a different name called The Scott Market and my Street passing through the Railway Block of ၂၈ လမ် directly lead to its entrance. The market I wide enough to span 3 streets. It will be worthwhile to visit this place with your wife with lots of balance in your Debit Card ( I have all my photos in camera not readily available for upload )
  • The main food area is best avoided; people chase after you with menus that have no prices (or, in one case for me, show you a menu with prices then sit you down at a different place where they make up a higher price and you can't find the lady with the menu they showed you). It's just so big that it's a little inaccessible as a foreigner. I wish there were more people to act as guides; obviously they would get some commission/fee but I just want to be able to walk in and find what I'm looking for because there's no directory.
  • If you like markets/bazaars, the Bogyoke Market is Right up your alley. Lots of vendors, lots of food options, much needed coffee, and nice authentic feel. Not to many people asking for money, vendors willing to haggle, and air conditioned mall across the street. If you want an attentive market/bazaar, check out this spot!’
  • I've checked the "precious stones" section: the prices where too high, even much higher than in Europe. If you want to find "authenticity", skip this part. The alternative is going to the New Bogyoke Market, crossing a little bridge, that simply is a shopping mall. You can have a cup of coffee there watching the locals enjoying themselves. It's weird, but i found that this shopping mall was more "local" than the market in front of it.
