Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery, Taunggyi

Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.3/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web
A 19th-century wooden monastery built on stilts, Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery displays a collection of Buddha statues and miniature pagodas from different parts of Tibet and Myanmar. Although the monastery is best known for its monks who trained cats to jump through hoops, you're more likely to see cats lazing about than preforming any stunts. Nevertheless, a walk around the impressive collection of lavish and highly ornate statues of sitting and reclining Buddhas and pagodas makes for a worthwhile visit. The grand golden chair, intended for only monks to sit on, stands out and evokes admiration. And match the monastery and the cats, will be healed.
