Indein Village, Taunggyi

4.7
#1 of 13 in Historic Sites in Shan State
Located on the western bank of Inle Lake, the hillside village of Indein Village offers many cultural landmarks and holy sites nearby. On the summit of the tallest hill, a pagoda shelters a Buddha idol, while hundreds of smaller ancient stupas overgrown with vegetation dot the landscape below. Feel the cool breeze and hear the temple bells ringing as you ascend towards the top for a view of the surrounding natural scenery. You can also visit the mysterious Indein creek, which has narrow twists and turns and a bamboo dam used to irrigate the rice paddies. Days can get very hot and exhausting, so carry extra water during your trek. Plan to visit Indein Village during your Taunggyi vacation using our convenient Taunggyi vacation builder.

The village is reached by navigating from the South end of the Lake through a canal. The village is inhabited by ethnic minorities with their characteristic clothing. On arrival you are navigating a route covered about 500 m with markets (after lunch were almost deserts) and arrive at the pagoda. The best thing are the hundreds of stupas surrounding it, with their distinctive reddish color, some bent on one side. One of the most beautiful views of Myanmar. Projected to arrive here when visiting the Lake.

Entrance a maniac from the start was spreads fantasy world prepares to step back. Pagoda and cattle were kept covered with cow dung, but buried in the soil, the roots are at stake, the pagoda the rot really is the best. Enjoy the photo shoot, dare go to the rainy season and fewer tourists.

Where to stay in Taunggyi

The city of Taunggyi possesses a handful of places to stay, with quite a variety between them. Never straying too far from the main north-south thoroughfare, the accommodations include upmarket resorts with golf courses and pools, simple hotels, hostels, and family-run guesthouses. Most international tourists stay in town for a night before carrying on their journey to the caves and lakes to the south, or Mandalay to the north--which has a good deal more lodgings.
