Indein Village, Taunggyi
(4.6/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Located on the western bank of Inle Lake, the hillside village of Indein Village offers many cultural landmarks and holy sites nearby. On the summit of the tallest hill, a pagoda shelters a Buddha idol, while hundreds of smaller ancient stupas overgrown with vegetation dot the landscape below. Feel the cool breeze and hear the temple bells ringing as you ascend towards the top for a view of the surrounding natural scenery. You can also visit the mysterious Indein creek, which has narrow twists and turns and a bamboo dam used to irrigate the rice paddies. Days can get very hot and exhausting, so carry extra water during your trek. Plan to visit Indein Village during your Taunggyi vacation using our convenient Taunggyi vacation builder.

  • The journey to Indein is equally as interesting as the village itself- a bit busy at the jetty but the locals clear it pretty quickly. A thought provoking walk around this area and great photo opportu...  more »
  • Truly charming although some pagodas need maintenance. Stroll through the many buildings, especially at dusk or early morning.

  • A village out of the world, out of time (although very visited by tourists). An exceptional site. Is accessed after a long walk in the dugout by a covered passageway (filled with shops) of 600 meters and you get in a forest of stupas, amazing, magical and exciting. Yes there are a lot of people but it's because it's exceptional that it's of the world, then the complainers can always go to Maubeuge but it's not quite the same. Personally I loved.
