Browse through Burmese handicrafts, foodstuffs, jewelry, paintings, lacquerware, and various hill-tribe textiles at Bogyoke Aung San Market, a major bazaar in downtown Yangon set in a large colorful colonial building. Also known as Scott’s Market among those who remember the British rule, the market serves as the city's most popular tourist destination for shopping. With over 1,600 shops, the loosely organized market offers a wide range of choices for local products, with streets around the covered market also offering a variety of goods. Try pork noodles in garlic oil, washed down with an avocado shake. • The market was easy to navigate. Very nice exterior to photograph. There are many jewellery shops here selling precious stones and jades. At the sides of the market you can find the stalls selling fabrics and clothing. You can pick up the Myanmar traditional clothing here or a souvenir T-shirt. On the upper floors, there are fabrics with weaved patterns as well. Overall, a good place to visit to have a look at what is on offer in Yangon.
  • Huge bustling market which is a lot of fun to simply just wander around or pick up souvenirs and really anything else you'd ever want to buy. It can be a bit daunting to find your way around, but it's perfectly safe and there are always lots of other tourists wandering around as well. I bought a couple souvenirs and found prices were totally reasonable without needing to bargain beforehand.
  • Fairly large market with lots of clothing, art and jewelry shops. If you are into those things you'll probably really enjoy this market. As for me I travel mainly for food than those other things. Therefore it wasn't that great for me. There is a "new" Bogyoke market across the street now that has quite a few shops as well.
  • Unfortunately not much to write home about. If you are interested in buying jade, paintings or gold jewellery then this is an excellent place to go. Otherwise I’d recommend you spend your time at the street markets surrounding this market.
  • A large, busy and very touristy market. It seems that it's not solely tourist oriented but the prices for tourists are much higher and the sellers are quite annoying. If you want to visit a traditional market there are better and more authentic markets in Yangon than this one.
