  • This place is the best in Mrauk U. There are inside tunnels and they just keep going. The design work inside is breathtaking and the colors are just wonderful. The carvings will just take your breath ...  more »
  • The Shittaung Paya namely shrine of 80,000 images is part of the Northern Group of temples. It was built by King Minbin in 1535; at the entrance, in a small building on the left, you can see the Shittaung Pillar an obelisk with a list of rakhine in Sanskrit. This temple is not to be missed for both a maze with many niches where the Buddha of all sizes, which are kept for the outer Gallery with four sides of sandstone covered with interesting reliefs on six levels: reliefs, with a little bit of everything, painting, depict scenes from the life of Buddha, scenes of daily life and the King Minbin and his Queens riding some elephants

  • The great Buddhist temple where full of history and legend, a must for the visitors.
  • Shitthaung Paya, Temple of 80,000 Buddha Images', and is also known as the 'Temple of Victory'. The temple was built in 1535–1536 by King Min Bar to commemorate his conquest of Bengal. There is a central hall at the heart of the temple, which can be easily accessed. Hundreds of Buddha statues line the main hall, some of them in their original positions, others moved from nearby excavation sites. However, the Shitthaung's most prominent feature is not the central hall, but rather the three layers of maze-like corridors that encircle the main hall. The three corridors contain countless reliefs of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Kings of Spiritual abodes, Devas, guardian spirits, the 550 Jatakas, Arakanese culture and animals, both real and mythical. The Shite-thaung temple is the main attraction of Mrauk U. Adjacent to it lies another famous temple, the Htukkanthein Temple (Htukkan Ordination Hall).
  • I really enjoyed walking inside this spooky temple.
  • Good place to visit
  • Amazing place. Go in late afternoon to watch sunset. Lots to see inside with two rings of buddhas. Beautiful and unlike anything you will see in Bagan.
