Mrauk-U, Myanmar
(4.7/5 based on 85+ reviews on the web)
The capital of a former kingdom of the same name, Mrauk-U still shows signs of its past prosperity. During the kingdom’s peak--between the 15th and 18th centuries--a number of administrative and religious buildings sprouted up in the area. See the stone-brick temples and sanctuaries around the palace, and ask a local to recount to you the area's most famous legend. According to the tale, the first prince of the kingdom was born from an egg laid by a female monkey. Mrauk-U is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Mrauk U Edition.

  • Mrauk-U after arrival in Yangon, immigration, then after a long wait, Dometic onward flight with stopover in Thandwe to Sittwe. After renewed immigration, we could take our luggage at reception. A driver waited and then took us to the plant site, where we boarded a boat to sail about 70 km upstream 6 hours at the hotel. Our guide Linn OO Zaw took us in reception and did the next immigration for us. Then began a wonderful boat ride into the night. We had a fantastic dinner on the boat with our guide. Later he withdrew and we enjoyed a wonderful sunset. Very impressive and we very happy to remember. Upon arrival at the hotel, the Guide did the required immigration to us. Our guide, about 30 years old accompanied us 3 days on the tour. We saw the local market of Mrauk U. koe-Thaung Temple, PESI pagoda, Shittaung Temple, Htukkan Thein Temple, Laungbankpyauk pagoda. Particularly impressive more cruise the Lemyo River to a village of Laytoo Chin. On the 3rd day we were accompanied by Linn OO Zaw back to Sittwe airport and checked us out there. It was a wonderful trip, very interesting and more than impressive. Our guide was very well-read, knew very much, had no problems at all with detailed knowledge. He was fluent in English and was a very pleasant traveling companion and we highly recommend him to book him. If we should travel back to Mrauk-U, we will certainly book him, because his handling is polite, considerate and courteous. We can recommend him over. • Will be difficult finding anything cheaper in Mrauk U. You get the basics here with a bit more. Free breakfast; hot water, towels, water. Interior is very dated and a bit dirty. Dim lighting and terrible Wi-Fi. Location is decent and staff are helpful. Lots of bugs everywhere in Mrauk U and same at this hotel. They're still building new units here and seems the workers are housed in some of the existing rooms so expect to hear construction noise during the day and loud music at night. I recommend checking out Prince Hotel.
  • All the palace is not finish but it's a good place to stay in Mrauk
