Rekindle your spirituality and get a glimpse into the past at Po Win Daung Caves. Small caves--947 of them--make up the artificial complex that houses a variety of carved sandstone Buddha statues and religious murals. Walls covered in art depict the Jataka legends and scenes from the lives of Buddhas; look up at the ceilings to see unique and diverse abstract artwork that dates back to the 14th century. Bring a flashlight or headlamp, as the caves are completely preserved and there are no electric lights. • Pretty often naturalized or something expired caves. It shows a special impression. Authentic and something mystical. Take your time because it is pretty vast, we were there at the beginning of October and it was very hot which makes it slow down anyway. A small disadvantage is that clearly not calculated foreign tourists. Especially in the first part is a lot of paper and plastic. The locals sell feeder for the monkeys. Of course not buy the monkeys come there en masse at you and gristen it out of your hands. It is also thereby everywhere waste from packaging and the nuts.

  • A bit long to reach but moving worth the trip... A multitude of caves with Buddhas of all sizes, in all positions... Some richly decorated and painted caves, almost no one on the site, to share monkeys who have elected home.

  • Dirty and far away for Monywa, didn't think it was worth the distance. Interesting man made caves with crude Buddhas within.
  • 14th century (and newer as well) dug out caves with multiple seated, standing, and reclining Buddhas. Lots of good photo ops
