Landmark
Take in a surreal and astonishing view at Bodhi Tataung, a renowned Buddhist region and monastery dominated by a 129 m (424 ft) tall golden standing Buddha. Built in 1995 to show gratitude to U Narãda, who built the original monastery, this is the second largest Buddha statue in the world, containing 31 internal stories, with an elevator allowing passage to the viewing point at the top. You can see many other astounding sights at the monastery, including a grove of more than 9,000 bo trees, a 69 m (225 ft) high golden pagoda, and thousands more depictions of the Buddha across the area. Consider taking the stairs to the top of the gigantic Buddha, where the paintings on each floor evoke the feeling of ascension and enlightenment. Put Bodhi Tataung into our Monywa tour planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • No interest to go to the site of the giant statues; You should see the Tower surmounting thousands of aligned Buddhas. It's a contest to the excessiveness of who will build the monument dedicated to the delusional Buddha. Spectacular to see... but no doubt completely artificial and
