Visit Sanda Muni Paya to see why many call it the world's largest book. Situated at the base of Mandalay hill, the site features scores of brilliant white stupas, each containing marble slabs with inscriptions of the Buddha's teachings--1,774 "pages" in all. The 19th-century pagoda houses an enormous iron statue of Buddha, entirely gilded. Bear in mind that you need to take off your shoes prior to entering here. Outside you'll find vendors with gifts and souvenirs. Plan to visit Sanda Muni Paya and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended Mandalay attractions using our Mandalay trip planner.

  • This is such a stunning pagoda. There were only about 4 people when I went so it was quite peaceful.
  • One of the most biggest library and beautiful pagoda.
  • Beautiful pagoda located near the northeast corner of the Golden Palace at Mandalay. It is known for its multitude of white stupas that give it a very unique look. It was built in the late 19th century as a memorial to a young prince who was assasinated during a rebellion.
  • Amazaing feeling and Peace of your mind in this pagoda .
